What Causes Severe Swelling Under Chin?

my dad has a large amount of swelling under his chin but not anywhere else. he said that there isn t swelling in his throat either, but he is itchy and his legs are sore so he took some advil. he is allergic to ceder trees which he has been burning in the wood stove is this dangerous and she he go to the doctors?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that swelling under the chin seems to be due to 2 main causes as there are 2 main structures in this area:
-One is submental group of lymph nodes that can swell due to infection in head and neck region while it can also be swollen due to lymphoma formation.
-Secondly it can also be due to swollen submental salivary gland that can occur due to infection in the gland while can also be due to clogged duct of the salivary gland..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x ray, MRI scan etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
In case of infection antibiotics along with warm and cool compresses can help..
In case of clogged ducts removal of obstruction either manually or surgically can help..
In case of lymphoma Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy can be advised..
