General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, I understand your concern. Tail bone is the terminal segment of spinal cord In pregnancy hormones loosen the pelvic ligaments making the pelvis more stretchable Also calcium & vitamin D deficiency make bones too soft & weak. In such condition over streching of abdomen/ slightest trauma to the tailbone can cause a prolonged painful condition/( due to inflammation or fracture of the small bones ) This part of body can not be mobilized.. so calcium & vitamin supplements along with rest is only way to heal the condition. It takes about a year to heal. So you have to avoid sitting forcefully on the buts. ( use round ring like inflated cushion for sitting ( as is used in piles )/ avoid bending if painful.Better make alternative arrangements for the tasks involving painful movements. Thanks.
