Hello. My name is Michael T. Today my wife told me she heard a loud bang inside her head, right above her forehead and a little toward left of center. She says there was no pain but she felt weird for a few seconds. She claims it has happened a couple of times in the past.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for the query. I understand your concern. Your description points to possibility of Exploding head syndrome(episodic cranial sensory shock )here patients hear imaginary loud noises in her ear or forehead ... Though there is no pain it creates fear & distress in mind of sufferer. This lasts for a very short time... mostly a harmless thing. Cause is not known. It a repeat for some time & suddenly disappears .In few people it may remain for a prolonged time/ life long. Still a consultation of neurophysician is advised ,for confirming the cause & prescription of medicine to be taken during the attack ( if needful) Thanks
