What Causes Severe Vomiting And Diarrhea In An 8 Year Old Girl?

Hi, my 8 year old daughter seems to not be getting any better. Last week, about 9 days ago she came home from school and began vomiting. This lasted for about 4 hours. She fell asleep and was better the next day. A little lethargic but seemed better. Then just yesterday, she woke up with diarrhea. She is about a week after this last episode. She also vomited once last night. She got up this morning feeling great. Once she ate, she got diarrhea again. Now she is on the couch saying this has cramps. Her tummy is very bloated and her stool is green, I am just worried!

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter is having symptoms of severe vomiting and diarrhea which seems to be due to systemic and electrolyte disturbances in body. It could be due to viral infection leading to gastroenteritis and food poisoning as well. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to get up slowly and do not lie down right after eating , eat small meals or snacks often ,try not to skip meals. If condition doesn't get better in 2-3 days the consult gynecologist for proper examination. Doctor may prescribe antiemetic drug along with antibiotics. You should eat cold food instead of hot, as it may not smell as strongly , sniffing lemons or ginger can sometimes help an upset stomach. You should take plenty of fluids.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
