Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have SEVERE water retainage in both feet. This has been going on for about a month. I ve tried elevating, eliminating salt, etc., but there is no relief. The puffiness and swolleness are extreme to the point that I can not walk comfortably - can t flex my toes toward my feet, unable to flex my ankles at all! When I put pressure on the area(s), the divots are deep and seem to last quite awhile. I drink lots of water. Any ideas?
I am sorry for the water retention problems you are going through.
Water retention in your feet (edema) could be due to various causes including: - locally (angioedema possible deep vein thrombosis or veins insufficiency): Doppler ultrasound of leg's veins recommended - liver/kidney issues to rule out through liver/kidney function test; abdominal ultrasound and urine analysis - cardiovascular issues: get a complete cardiac check up including ECG, echocardiogram - medications: if you are taking meds like those used to treat hypertension like calcium-channel blockers (nifedipine, amlodipine, etc); then should stop taking them and report legs edema to your caring doctor.
Discuss with your doctor about my possibilities and hope you'll find the real cause to your swollen legs.
Hope this helps.
