What Causes Severe Weight Loss After A Nissen Fundoplication?
I had a Nissan fundiplication about 16 months ago. I lost about 30 pounds post surgery and have been unable to gain anything back although I eat 3500 to 4000 caloried daily. I am easily fatigued compared to pre-surgery, and I am constantly hungry. I have found that protein drinks and bars help, but I feel like I ve lost a couple of steps. Age 65, male.
Loss of weight is mainly due to the decrease in size of stomach & there by getting early satiety or fullness with lesser intake of food.
The average loss of weight would be 3-4kg. Higher reduction is seen in females & obese patients. I advice you to take full liquid diet. It includes water, fruit & vegetable juices, milk, yogurt, cereals etc.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.
Regards, Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
