What Causes Severe Yeast Infection On Lips Despite Taking Medications?

I had a sinus infection & my doctor prescribed Levofloxacin, 500 Mg for 13 days. I have developed a yeast infection on my lips. My doctor then prescribed Fluconazole, 150 mg. I took the first of 2 pills on 5/28/2015 then I took the last pill on 5/31/2015, as prescribed. I still have something wrong with my lips???? Thank you, Vadie Jordan

Hi Dear Vadie Jordan,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of yeast infection on lips and you took medication for that for two days and still persisting symptoms which is matter you should not be worried about. Small amount of yeast always lives in body in moist areas like lips and its numbers are naturally kept in check by bacteria and other microorganisms that make up your microbiome. Some times these fungi got favorable environment and growth in excess and causes candidiasis or oral thrush.

I would suggest you to take combination of antifungal medications such as Kertoconazole, Amphotericin B for around 10-14 days to get complete relief. Take probiotic yogurt supplemets, apply tea tree oil and take garlic or apply it in small quantities.

If you smoke quit it. Don't overuse mouthwashes or sprays. Maintain oral hygiene properly and keep apply moisturizing agent rich in aloe vera gel.

Cover that area from sun light or apply mild sunscreen. Your symptoms will resolve in around 1 week. Do visit dentist if your symptoms keeps on persisting.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes,
