What Causes Shadows In The Far-peripheral Vision After A Cataract Surgery?

Hi Doc, I would like to know why do I get a shadow in the corner of my eye after I have done my cataract surgery. My aunt had this surgery done and she went back to my doctor who informed her it is temporary and it will go away. My concern is how long should she wait for this shadow to go away. Thank you. Leonie

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
The problem of what you are facing following cataract surgery is more or less normal and should recede over a period of time.
This happens because eyes take time to recover back to normal shape and contour along with adjusting to the environment after lens implantation. It takes about 4 to 6 weeks to return back to the normal functioning.
Hence, do not worry about it and get your vision checked after 6 weeks for necessary refractory correction. Follow all the advise and care that needs to be taken.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
