What Causes Shaking Spells Followed By Fussiness And Loss Of Appetite?

My son has shaking spells. His face goes very pale and he will start shaking. He is able to walk and talk during the episodes. It usually accompanies him not feeling well leading up to the event. His appetite decreases significantly and he is fussy for most of the day. Usually the shaking lasts 30 seconds or less. He is looking around and seems conscious. What do you think this could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your description, I am of the opinion that it's epilepsy ( specifically it's called absent seizures type of epilepsy).

For further diagnosis I will need some answers to questions like how attentive he is in class, does he daydreams often etc. EEG should be done. Valproate and similar antiepileptics are treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
