Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Sharp Chest Pain Upon Eating Certain Foods?
I get really bad chest pain about 10m after eating fish. Im a 22yr old male and first noticed this about a year ago even though I ve been eating fish and other seafood my whole life. The pain is slightly below and to the right of my xyphoid process and can be mild to severely dull or sharp. Only a few times it was severe to where I had to pull over or wait in the parking lot. It lasts for about 30-45m. For the longest time I suspected it was a fall stone but it s only with fish. It feels like swallowing something whole and it getting caught in your throat. What is the best cause?
The symptoms seem like acid reflux or possible gastritis attack. Should get upper endoscopy to check it out. However, you say you ate only fish. But, I think you might have eaten with other food/drink. Perhaps this miscellation might have caused possible indigestion.
Take antacid (liquid). If cannot hold, drink plenty of warm water to provoke vomiting. That will help. Once again, it seems like indigestion, possibly bad cooked fish, or any food combination you use with fish that makes you feel this bad.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other concern.
All the best.
Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
