What Causes Sharp Chest Pain While On Levaquin And Prednisone For Cough?

I ve been sick for a month, it started with the flu for 4 days, then went into a cough. I then seemed to catch a cold on the heels of the flu and have been coughing up junk along with a runny nose and right sided pain in my upper ribs that comes and goes. I have RA and haven t taken my meds in two weeks trying to combat this sickness. I went to the doctor yesterday and she gave my Levaquin and prednisone with a chest xray if I am not better by tomorrow. How much would the chest pain be associated with my RA? I have flare ups on and off and they are always transient, but this is the first time I ve had sharp chest pain which has been going on for a week now. Is the Levaquin enough if I have the beginnings of bronchitis or pneumonia?

Hello,

The chest pain along with a cough you are experiencing is most likely to be due to underlying pneumonia, rather than rheumatoid arthritis.

Levaquin is a very effective antibiotic in clearing up a lung infection. Prednisone will help reduce inflammation, wheezing and coughing. Continue these medications as prescribed.

Please be advised to get a chest Xray done (if not already) to confirm the diagnosis.
