Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Today I started having a sharp pain in my right ear whenever I drink. The pain extends to my throat on that side. There is a persistent slight pain that gets a bit worse while swallowing saliva, but when I take a sip of anything it's intensified. When I drink anything cold the pains severe. I don't feel sick although I'm recently recovered from a GI bug. Strangely enough, chewing elicits the same effect, but swallowing food doesn't hurt the ear. So what's going on?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
As per your complain ear ache while swallowing can be due to infection in the middle ear as well as other causes can TMJ disorder. Infection in throat can also lead to ear infection and both the conditions have a cumulative effect on causing pain in ear and throat while swallowing.. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investogation like Otoscopy can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly.. As of now you can take Ibuprofen if pain is moderate and Tramadol for severe pain..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
