What Causes Sharp Pain And Discomfort In Right Ear?

I was fine when I went to sleep. However, after lying there for about 5 minutes or so, I felt a pain in my right ear. It feels almost like there is something sharp stuck in the ear just where the Eustachian Tube meets the ear canal. What can be causing the pain?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain severe pain in ear can be due to ear infection while it can also be due to causes like excessive wax buildup, fluid inside the ear, foreign body impaction,traumatic injury to ear canal etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and Otoscopic examination of ear can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned according to the cause..
In case of ear infection oral and ear drop antibiotics can help..
In case of excess wax accumulation removal of the wax can help..
Other conditions will be treated as per diagnosis..
As of now you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Avoid picking or cleaning the ear as it can cause furthur injury and pain..
