What Causes Sharp Pain And Pricking Sensation In Throat?

Since last week may be due to seasonal allergies I was sneezing, today also I sneezed and I m feeling pricking pain in my throat/trachea. I massaged my throat thinking that maybe it could be a pulled muscle. I did some salt +warm water gargle but sharp pain in my throat where its hard to swallow and it feels as if I have something lodged in it. I usually sneeze hard and loud and I ve never experienced this before. I haven no issues while speaking or breathing. I am very concerned now Should I go to ER?

Hello,

Your symptoms could be related to an irritation of the throat mucosa. For this reason, I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam. A throat swab (bacterial culture) would help exclude a possible infection in this area.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
