What Causes Sharp Pain And Tightness Between Upper Abdominal Area?

My 51 year-old wife is experiencing sharp pains in her abdomen between her ribs and belly button in the center. She describes it as tight and it started slightly to the left and has moved to the right. It started approximately 2-3 hours ago. She thought she was going to have diarrhea and now thinks she might vomit. Neither have happened, yet. Also, she says she has never had this pain before.

Hi
Thank you for contacting healthcare magic.
It is an acute abdomen which is a surgical emergency. This type of pain can be due to acute appendicitis, acute cholecystitis or acute pancreatitis, etc. But for diagnosis, physical examination and laboratory workup is very important. So take her to surgical emergency immediately for management.
Take care
