Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 8 year old grandson is experiencing sharp pain about one inch about his left nipple. He has had this off and on now for about two years. The doctors say there is nothing they can find that is wrong. I find it disturbing as he actually holds his hand to this place if he is going to laugh. My daughter could see him in pain before he even got out of bed this morning. This does not happen all the time. It is quite debilitating for him when it is happening. Please advise. Thanks so very much. I appreciate your help. Sincerely, Arlene Rannelli
If a child complains of pain in that region I would think of conditions like costochondritis, mastitis and may be cardiac conditions. A physical examination will give clues to the diagnosis. There may be some local redness or raise of temperature associated with redness in inflammatory conditions. Further investigations depend on the examination findings. If I suspect a cardiac condition I will think of ECG and other investigations. If I think of local trauma X ray chest will help. Management depends on the investigation reports
Continue to ask further queries as required. Hope this helps. Take care.
