What Causes Sharp Pain In And Around Bellybutton?

i am experiencing sharp pains in and around my bellybutton. The pain seems to get worse when stretching or laying down on my side but apart from that nothing else hurts. I feel nauseous and the pain is discomforting. When laying down on my side I sometimes get much sharper pains around my bellybutton that last from a few seconds to about a minute. Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there,
The persistent pain around your belly button that comes on and off is indicative of some obstruction in your intestines. It could be a case of appendicitis(fairly common ) or some other form of bowel disease which is rare. I will advise you to consult a general surgeon and get an ultrasound abdomen to evaluate the possible diagnosis.
For the time being you can have tab buscopan 10 mg to relieve the spasmodic pain but please do get a surgeon consult soon,

Hope this helps,
Please feel free to address further queries to me,
