What Causes Sharp Pain In Between The Ankle And Knee?

Hello, I am. 70 yr old woman, in general good health. In the recent past I have had two or three instances of a sharp pain in my leg. About half way between ankle and knee, on the inside of leg. I weigh about 130 lbs and am 5 4 tall. I do yoga exercise 3-4 classes a week, of various forms. Pain feels like a knife stab, most usually happening when I get up from bed, and find it hard to step down on floor. Usually stop to rub area, and it begins to feel a little better. Has returned more frequently recently. any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms you mentioned may be caused due to poor blood circulation; which can be caused by various underlying issues like anemia, blood clots, vascular diseases to name a few.

I would suggest you visit a GP to get examined, and tested for possible poor blood circulation in your lower limbs. Meanwhile, I would suggest you keep your legs warm, stop smoking if you are a smoker, change your leg position often, elevate your legs when sitting, and sleeping for better circulation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ayesha Shareef,
