Hi,
It is possible that the pain may be due to issues with the nerves in that area.
Nerve-related pain is called
neuralgia and it is due to neuropathy (abnormal function of the nerves).
It can be temporary.
Some causes are: (1) trauma
(2) diabetes
(3)
kidney or
liver disease
(4) low
vitamin B12 or folate
(5) side effect of medication
(6)
thyroid disease
(7) abnormal level of vitamin B6
(8) infection
(9) ms or other neurological conditions
(9) in some persons the cause is not found.
If it continues, then you can be assessed to find the cause. This would involve a physical examination and blood tests.
There are meds that help with neuralgia that can be prescribed by your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
