What Causes Sharp Pain In The Neck Radiating To The Head?
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia three years ago, however I am not sure if this is correct. I have all the symptoms of fibromyalgia but I also have sharp pain from neck up the back of my head often and severe fatigue with burning in my left arm and left leg from knee down the left side of my lower leg. I am concerned that this is something other than fibromyalgia
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have sharp pain in the neck radiating to the head . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like strep throat , viral pharyngitis , acid reflux or thyroid problem . The symptoms can also occur due to TMJ joint disorder or clenching of teeth also known as bruxism. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles several times a day , take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and take anti hisatmine like benadyl twice a days . Consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or throat swab test and viral culture test . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like amoxicillin at least for 5 days or antiviral depending upon the diagnosis . Doctor may also refer you to neurologist for migraine or orthopedic surgeon for muscle or bone problem.
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
