Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My elderly father (91) was exposed for long hours for a couple of months to my mother who had MRSA in her nose. A few weeks after my mothers death, my father developed a very sharp pain in one nostril. He describes it as almost a shock when he blows his nose or touches the side. His doctor did not swab his nose but did look and said she couldn t see much because it was very inflamed. She said she thought it was something common that can happen when a nerve is exposed and prescribed a nose spray. His symptoms decreased for a few weeks but are now back. Should he be tested for MRSA or is there a common disease of the nose that can cause sharp pain? Thank you - Dale
At this age, it's very common to get an infection when exposed to any stimulus.
There is a possibility that due to decreased immunity which is commonly seen at this age, recurrent infections are causing these symptoms.
I would suggest you take him to ENT specialist and get it checked as it started to show symptoms like the previous time.
After careful examination, your doctor will decide if there is a need for any diagnostic test or just the antibiotics are enough. So, follow your doctor’s advice on this for better management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
