What Causes Sharp Pain In The Ribs Post Injury?

I injured my right ribs in a fall 3 weeks ago. X-rays showed no fracture but very painful. Things finally started to subside and this morning during a physical movement I heard a loud pop sound in the injured are and am in more pain than when I was first injured. The pain gets very sharp when going from lying to sitting position and raising my arm. Should I be going back to the doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It can be repeat stress to injured and weakened rib, or it can be just a muscle pull. It is necessary at the moment to know the exact cause and get specific methodical treatment. For time being give rest to part, take Ibugesic over the counter after food. Consult an orthopedic surgeon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
