What Causes Sharp Pain In The Upper Abdomen?

I have sharp pain in my upper abdomen at times when I am exerting myself - mowing the lawn, carrying heavy things up stairs. I used to exercise regularly, but have not engaged in regular exercise for over a year. I have had an endoscopy (nothing showed up) and a cardiac stress test (my heart is fine). The pain keeps me from even going on walks.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As the pain is related to exertion, it can be possible muscle sprain involving upper abs or lower chest as of rib ligaments or else.

Primary guidelines
- local application of analgesic spray
- intake of ibuprofen if no history of sensitivity to drug
- avoid excess straining

Follow up after 2 days for recovery details or early as per the need.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
