What Causes Sharp Pain In The Wrist And Arm Despite Taking Medication?

Hi! I had surgery in March, 2015 to (de quervein) release the tendons in my right wrist. Since the surgery, the pain has not gone away. I have had another shot of cortisone and that helped for a few days and the pain came back. My wrist turns blue and the veins pop out when it throbs. Just recently, I moved my thumb and it made a strange popping sound. Now there is almost like a sink hole in my wrist, about an inch from the surgery incision. I can t write, comb my son s hair, hold a coffee cup, etc. without sharp pains in my wrist and up my arm. I m so confused as to what to do.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You may need to have some physiotherapy to help the muscles relax and relieve the pain. It seems you have already tried a lot of treatments for De Quervain and the only one you did not mention is physiotherapy, which in fact is very helpful to recover from surgery and recover the function of the limbs.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
