What Causes Sharp Pain In Throat Upon Swallowing While Suffering From Runny Nose And Cold?

Hi! I ve had a sore throat and mucus build up the past couple weeks. The runny nose and mucus has gone down quite a bit, but the only thing about my sore throat is that whenever I swallow or yawn a get a sharp pain behind my left tonsil. Ive tried to look back there with a flash light, but can barely see what looks to be a while bump or blister. Do you have any idea what this may be?

Hi dear ,

As per your query you have sore throat along with flu like symptoms . sore throat can occur due to viral as well as bacterial infection . The most common cause of a sore throat is a viral infection, such as a cold or the flu. A sore throat caused by a virus resolves on its own with at-home care. If condition is getting worse and there are swollen tonsils then you should consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and treatment . Doctor may examine physically , order tests like throat swab test , viral culture test and blood test to rule out condition like strep throat . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin ) along with anti inflammatory and in some cases tonsillectomy is also requred but in advance stages .
