What Causes Sharp Pain On The Base Of The Head?
On Friday and again tonight I ve had a sharp pain on the right side at the bottom of my head into the neck region. It is a sharp pain such as a having a muscle cramp. It recedes and then the pain will increase again. It has lasted about 20-30 minutes then goes away. Do you think it is a muscle spasm or something to do with the nerves?

Though it can be either of these, it is more likely muscle spasm though both will need to be assessed for if the pain continues.
In addition to physical examination, an x-ray of the neck along with blood tests would be required.
Blood that helps with muscle and nerve assessment include electrolytes, complete blood count, screen for diabetes, liver and kidney function, thyroid.
