What Causes Sharp Pain On The Left Side Of The Back?
I have hard very painful sharp pain on the right side of my back, like right behind my ribs. it comes and goes almost in rhythm. If i lay in the bath it helps a lot. Im scared, I just stared a knew job today, there is no calling in sick, not sure what it is or what to do. This happened months ago, but it was both sides, and I was very ill with a fever, basically couldn t move, took some antibiotics from my dentist, that helped. (at the time I did not have health insure. but I do now. Just recently went to get a physical, every thing looked fine, mammogram and all, all though I have smoked for 12 years and was perscribedBupropion for a week then started the patches about a week ago. Really stressed about my new job, can t miss but have know idea how I can make it through. Its at Costco and very physical. I know you will say call your dr. just want to know if there is a simple explanation?

Sharp painful back pain can be due to some sort of muscle sprain since you have not mentioned any radiation of the pain to the abdomen or groin to rule out urteric colic and pancreatitis. Other reason can be osteoprosis for which you need to take some calcium and vitamin D supplements.
But I would advice you to go to physician have an ultrasound abdomen and pelvis and an X-ray lumbosacral spine AP lateral view. In the meanwhile start taking some calcium and vitamin dD supplements like Ornate D, a muscle relaxant and a pain killer in case of severe pain.
