What Causes Sharp Stabbing Pain Around The Hip?
I have a sharp pain in my left hip area - not in the hip itself but just to the right and above. It aches all the time and when I move a certain way I get a sharp stabbing pain. Pressure helps as long as I keep the pressure on but as soon as I have to let off the pressure the pain comes right back. I recently had acupuncture for a pinched sciatic nerve in the same area. I am not sure that it has helped a lot. Ice helps but only for a while.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have sharp stabbing pain around the hip . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like osteoarthritis , bursitis , hip labral tear , sprains and strains , tendonitis , herniated disk or sciatica . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon again for proper checkup . Doctor may order CT scan or MRI to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe drugs like orthodox MR , methotrexate , or may recommend surgery of hip or disc . For now take proper rest and give proper rest to hip joint , to take anti inflammatory painkillers, muscle relaxants like Chlorzoxasone,do warm compresses, Physiotherapy under a trained physician, avoid bending again and again.
