What Causes Shingles In The Butt Crack For A 77 Year Old Female?

My mother is 77 years old and she s had shingles in her butt crack for the past two or three weeks. There are some days when she feels she s getting better and then there are other days when the pain comes back with full vengeance. How long does this usually last? Are there any dude effects? Can she prevent it from coming back again?

Hello,

In most of the cases, this pain lasts for 3-5 weeks even after the rash subsides. You can take analgesics for the pain relief that is specific for the postherpetic pain. I suggest you visit your doctor for evaluation and treatment as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr SAMEEN BIN NAEEM, General & Family Physician
