What Causes Shivers In The Back With Hot Flushes On Face?

Hello there. I tink i just got a chill 2 days ago as i went outside without putting on an overcoat, though for max 1 minute, just to shut gate/take out rubbish, Woke yesterday with throat on fire, causing dry cough, watering eyes etc. Have taken total bed rest, using antiseptic gargle, hot herbal drinks, hot water with lemon, paracetamol, echinacea drops (to support immune function) and ivy-thyme drops (recommended to stop/clear production of mucus (none yet) and help prevent descent to lungs (am prone to bronchitis with any respiratory infection). Biggest thing today is the shivers. Waves of them moving up my back from say kidney area through ribcage, both sides and middle - alternating. Odd extra: stabbing pain left abdomen very localised, occasional. Temperature fluctuating. Am keeping hot water bottles at back and feet, have extra bedcovers on, central heating in house though a waste as i am alone, and becoming worried. Could it just be a chill in kidneys (am also urinating more than usual but since am taking much more liquids this may be why). As i type i have the shivers going up my back and my face is hot. Am self-employed, have no family and am in financial difficulty (acute) - if i cant work by say thursday i wont be able to pay for heating, other bills and full rent. Have not seen a doctor for years as cant afford to (our crazy health system) but have not felt the need either. Hoping it is just result of stupidity in going outside (temp around zero) albeit briefly, with no overcoat - stupid stupid me.

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

You have got flu-like symptoms(chills, sore throat, dry cough, watering eyes, fluctuating temperatures) i.e viral upper respiratory tract infection , on undue exposure to severe cold (around zero-outside).Since you have already started symptomatic treatment like paracetamol, gurgling, hot drinks etc but no significant relief you need to take a course of antibiotic preferably Levofloxacin 500 mg daily orally for at least 05 days, as you are prone to bronchitis. At the same time you may undergo complete blood count & routine urine analysis as base-line investigation,as women are prone to urinary tract infection. If symptoms persist even after 03 days of antibiotic therapy ,you may consult your doctor with investigation reports, which will be available with you by then.
