What Causes Shooting Pain From Ear Down To Throat?

I have been diagnosed with an ear infection. Been on antibiotics for 4 days now, no difference. I m getting a sharp shooting pain through my ears to what feels like my throat. I can t tell of I have a sore throat or if it s just pain from my ears. Also taking Tylenol and ibuprofen in addition. Any other suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
There is a phenomenon called referred pain. If you have an infection in your ear, pain can be felt in your throat and vice versa. The pain will be gone once your infection subsides. Wait for the entire course of the antibiotics and if you are still experiencing pain, your doctor might change you to another stronger antibiotic. Take care and good day to you.
