What Causes Shooting Pain In Upper Right Chest And Shortness Of Breath?

For 10 weeks I have been to 2 emergency rooms, primary care physician , a cardiologist, and a pulmonologist. .. no one is helping me I feel like they are not taking me serious due to me being an overall always healthy person excerising 3 to 5 days a week.... I am a 25 year old female... my symptoms are sharp shooting pains in upper right chest that goes up into my right neck and down right arm, also stabbing pain in left side of chest, pain in left shoulder, I am extremely weak, very short of breath, starting to have alot of swelling especially in right arm and leg, the pain gets worse while I am moving and sitting up, but eases up some while resting and laying down but pain does not fully goes away? Any suggestions on what to do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The pain you are describing sounds like pleuritis or an inflammation of the membrane surrounding your right lung. There are several causes for this. Lupus, pneumonia or the like. I would suggest the following tests if they haven't already been done:
-- Lupus panel
-- Complete blood count, kidney function test and liver function test
-- CT chest
-- ECG and echo
-- Ultrasound of your leg and arm that swells up

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
