What Causes Short Period With Dark Areola?

My areolas started getting dark like a dark ring around the outer end once a month before & after my period. Me & my husband have unprotected sex, I never been on birth control, and I never seen my breast changing once a month. Before my period would last up to 7 days with a medium flow, now my periods are very heavy short and last for 3 days.
