Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Short Term Memory Loss After Withdrawing From Lamotrigine?
I am on my last week of coming off of lamotirgine 400mg per day, which I have taken since September 2014. I began experiencing short-term memory loss after starting on this medicine and still have that memory loss. How long does it take for the medicine to be completely out of my system? Will my memory return? Is it possible that being on this medicine has altered my brain, in that, once it s out of my system, I have a new norm of brain functioning that differs from my brain functioning before I started the medicine?
It is not related to Lamotrigene. If symptoms persist, better to consult a neurologist and plan for an MRI brain to rule out possible intracranial (inside the brain) causes.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shinas Hussain,
