What Causes Short Term Memory Loss In An Adult?

My son, age 27, is having difficulty with short term memory. It is affecting his work and he is quite upset how easily he is forgetting minor details, appointments, info just told to him. This is a new condition. How do I start to research this for him?

Hello,

Short-term memory loss in adults can be caused by various factors, including:
* Aging: As we age, our brain function declines, and our ability to recall short-term memories may be affected.
* Head injury: A head injury, such as a concussion or traumatic brain injury, can cause short-term memory loss.
* Stroke: A stroke can cause damage to the brain, which can result in short-term memory loss.
* Alcohol or drug abuse: Chronic alcohol or drug abuse can damage the brain and affect short-term memory.
* Medications: Certain medications, such as sedatives, antidepressants, and antihistamines, can affect short-term memory.
* Sleep deprivation: Sleeping less can affect one's short-term memory.
* Stress and anxiety: Chronic stress and anxiety can affect the ability to concentrate and recall short-term memories.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
