What Causes Shortness Of Breath After Reinstitution Of Tapazole?

I was put on Tapazole for hyperthyroid. I was on 15 mg daily and due to side effects the doseage was decreased to 10mg daily. I cont to have side effects so the medication was stopped. That was one week ago. I have had shortness of breath since starting the medication and I now sound congested. IS THIS A SIDE EFFECT AND WILL IT GO AWAY NOW THAT I AM NO LONGER ON THE MEDICATION.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The Tapazole contains Methimezole used for control of hyperthyroid status as it has anti thyroid properties. There are ample number of side effects of the Tapazole as:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Dizziness
- Palpitation and raised heart beat
- Respiratory congestion
- Jaundice through liver effect
- Hair loss
- Insomnia
- Muscle and joint ache

As you have stopped consuming the medication, its side effects will vanish over a period of 3-5 working days till the drug metabolites get cleared from the circulatory system.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
