What Causes Shortness Of Breath After Running?

15 yr old, plays sports and and after sprinting/running feels like her throat closes up on her and has trouble breathing/shortness of breath. To best describe sympton feels like she can't catch her breath. Already take Clariton, Symbcort, Combivent and it still does not help. This only happens when running is involved. What can be cuasing this issue and what is the best type specialist to take her to?

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
thank you for using health way magic.

She may be suffering from exercise induced asthma. Is she asthmatic or is there any one with asthma in your family? any allergies? Best to see a pediatric pulmonologist. there are tests (ex methacoline test, spirometry, etc.) which can be used in order to find out if its really asthma. She may need an inhaler in order to prevent her shortness of breath before playing sports.

sincerely,

Mark Rosario MD
