What Causes Shortness Of Breath Along With Chest Pain?

I’m bipolar and I have a hypothyroid and sleep apnea. For about 3 to 4 weeks I just walk a few steps to go to the bathroom and back and I can barely breath with chest pain and my chest and arms shaking a lot. I also keep getting my feet and hand numb. I’m not sure when I stopped clonazepam but it was around the time these problems starting happening. I’m out of clonazepam and only have a few Xanax left. Is this the reason why all of this is happening to me? Thanks

Hello,

More than likely the symptoms you describe are due to acute withdrawal of benzodiazepines.

Clonazepam drug is long acting benzodiazepines that should be tapered down slowly not stopped abruptly. Xanax drug is short acting benzodiazepines.

I hope this confirms your suspicions of the cause of these symptoms and you get back on a regular medication regime soon to avoid progressive symptoms knowing that tapering off these medications in the future will help you avoid these withdrawals.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Kathy Shattler
