What Causes Shortness Of Breath Along With Wheezing?
Hi, my name is Kathy I am a 57-year-old female. I have smoked for approximately 40 years off and on. For the past week I have been having episodes of shortness of breath maybe 6 occurrences a day, no chest pain, not coughing anything up, I think I am having episodes of wheezing also. I have an appointment next week with my pcp. Should I be seen earlier? Since I have been on websites I am becoming worried. I also have fibromyalgia and idiopathic small fiber neuropathy. Thank you
Your shortness of breath should be asked in detail like duration of it and how it will subside, whether you have orthopnoea or generalised body weakness or do you have fatigue, PND (Paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea), et cetera.
All these leading questions to you will help up to know whether your symptoms are due to fibromyalgia or your consequences of cigarette smoking or not. Since, you have wheeze also we can likely to think of its due upper respiratory irritation and consequent bronchospasm.
To manage such kinds of patient’s best is bronchodilator Asthalin puffs which can be taken with doctor’s prescription only.
You can try tapering cigarette smoking habit gradually in order to avoid this kind of complication. You can also use nicotine gums to break that habit.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
