What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Anemia For A 63 Year Old Man?
I am a 63 year old male and had been in excellent health. I workout 4 to 5 times a week for approximately 75 to 80 minutes which used to include 30 minutes of intense aerobic exercise. In the last 6 months I have experienced shortness of breath doing everything from a simple walk up a flight of stairs to my exercise routine being severely curtailed because I cannot get enough oxygen to feed my muscles. After five minutes I have labored breathing. I have also become borderline anemic and my mouth is always dry. While not overly pronounced, I feel a dull pressure in what I would say is my upper right chest area, perhaps lung. I have had a stress echocardiogram and my heart is fine.
If the stress test ruled out any problems with the heart then you may need to consider seeing a pulmonologist to take a look at the lungs.
This would be one of the next possible sources of shortness of breath. As you mentioned, anemia can also cause shortness of breath. A complete blood count would determine if anemia is present and would also give an idea of the cause of the anemia
I hope this helps
