Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was told by the doctor that allergies may be causing my shortness of breath and resulting chest pain. Every cardiac and pulmonary test has been negative. An antihistamine was prescribed. I have tried Singulair, Zyrtec Claritin and Allegra. I am currently on Allegra, which is doing what and Singulair and Zyrtec did: cause severe stuffy nose and worse shortness of breath. Claritin did this less. Am I allergic to these medications? I am 65 years old and very sensitive to all medications. My recent RAST allergy test was negative. Could the stuffy nose and what I have thought were allergy symptoms really be a reaction to the antihistamines?
