Hi, for 20 Year’s I have fought shortness of breath and pressure in chest. Every test imaginable done and NOTHING. Is random but daily can be with stress or at nothing at all. Just can’t get a good breath or deep one when it happens. But, I can lay down ,go fight to sleep and breath like a baby all night. At my wits end

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Heart and lung function tests would determine if the symptoms are related to either of these organs. A complete blood count would determine if there is any evidence of anemia, which can sometimes cause shortness of breath.

If tests looking at these different areas are normal, then it is not likely that the symptoms are related to a physical cause. They may be due to a psychological cause, which is very common.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
