Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Swelling In The Legs?
I m recovering from a blood clot from my leg to my lungs. Why do I still have shortness of breath and swelling in my legs? They checked my heart (Echo Gram ) and legs no new clots. I ALMOST pass out climbing the stairs with shortness of breath? They said my iron was low. Is this part of recovery or permanent?
Shortness of breath after an episode of pulmonary embolism is not a good sign and should be further investigated. Low iron levels unless extremely low will not cause such severe dyspnea and it also doesn't explain the swelling in the legs.
It is advisable to get yourself assessed again and also get a Doppler ultrasound of the leg veins done if possible. You may be prescribed a blood thinner drug like aspirin to prevent any future clots.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma Amman
