Hello,

Hiatus hernia per se may cause gastroesophageal reflux and may worsen already existing esophagitis. But it can't be responsible for shortness of breath you have been experiencing. Your chest pain and shortness of breath may be lung related. Sometimes X-rays can't detect or may be hazy with little exposure.

Repeat chest X-ray posteroanterior and lateral views along with 2D echocardiography. Look for any aortic dissection. Your chest pain might be related to gastritis and esophageal reflux but shortness of breath must have a lung or heart pathology. If chest X-ray is not conclusive, CT chest may be done to identify the cause of shortness of breath.

If you are having allergy or asthma, exposure to the allergen will cause cough and bronchospasm with shortness of breath. If cough is present then sputum examination is advisable. Back pain and tingling in left foot and left hand suggests some spinal cord pathology like lumbar spondylitis with cervical disc degeneration with impingement on nerve causing tingling and numbness. An X-ray cervical vertebrae would help the cause. Please discuss with your doctor the above mentioned points.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

General & Family Physician Dr. Dr. Nupur K's  Response
Hello,

You are suffering from extreme chest pain, shortness of breath, back pain on the left side, tingling and numbness in the left hand and foot. You have been diagnosed with hiatus hernia, it can cause symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, heartburn, difficulty in swallowing, etc. Esophagitis and gastritis can also cause symptoms of heart burn, acid reflux, chest pain, feeling of fullness in the stomach, etc.

Get it treated at the earliest. Back pain and pain, tingling and numbness in the left side of the hand and feet is indicative of developing neurological problems. Get clinically examined by a neurologist and get all tests and investigations done. Get it treated at the earliest. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
