What Causes Shortness Of Breath While Exercising In A Heart Patient?
Hi, I am a 69 year old male and I have been on Sotalol (2 times 120mg per day) for one year. I have had no atrial Fibrillation or flutter since I have been taken Sotalol. I find it however difficult to do my gym excercises. When I go to my gym and try to do my usual fitness program, most of the time I have to stop halfway through my program because of tightness in my chest and being short of breath, although my heart rate seems to be okay. Should I accept this as part of getting older, Or?
Shortness of breath while exercising indicates compromise in heart function (possible with normal heart rate) in terms of as part of normal aging, until and unless proved by normal cardiac evaluation. You require consultation with your treating cardiologist for the evaluation with: - Electrocardiogram - 2 D echo - Tread mill test - Complete hemogram - Sugar profile with HBA1c - Lipid profile with LDL, HDL, triglyceride levels
Must avoid smoking or any forms of tobacco if consuming.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
