What Causes Shortness Of Breath While On Chlorothiazide?

I am taking 25 mg of Chlorothiazide once a day in the morning. my blood pressure seems okay now. But, I am feeling irritable, a bit of shortness of breath (when climbing stairs) and my heart beat is fast. The medicine does not have any diuretic effect on me. is this normal? I am feeling a little light headed too. I started this medicine mid December 2016

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Feeling short of breath with climbing stairs is a condition that needs evaluation to make sure your lungs and heart are doing well.
it is normal with the use of chlorthiazide to not feel so much the diuretic effect with time, the fact that the blood pressure is fine is a sign it is helping you.
I would recommend you to see your doctor and have the proper examination to find the cause of the shortness of breath with exercise and get the proper treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
