Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Shortness Of Breath While On Lisinopril?
Lately I seem to be a little short of breath. Not severe. I take two Lisinapril 40 mg, each day for blood pressure. I did take 1 40 mg until recently. My lower BP number hovers around low 50’s to 72. My top number has improved though. I am 80 years old but in good health.
It could be due to the side effect of Lisinopril. The angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors like Lisinopril are commonly prescribed to treat high blood pressure and heart failure.
Generally, it is well tolerated, however it can cause hypotension, dry cough, allergic reaction in the form of swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing can also occur due to an allergic reaction.
I advise you to consult your treating doctor to adjust the dose or to prescribe an alternate effective medication to control your high blood pressure. Other causes of shortness of breath such as heart disease or lung disease should also be ruled out.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
