What Causes Shortness Of Breath While On Metoprolol Tartrate?
I have atrial fib - i take 100 mg metroprolol tartrate - diltazem - digoxin - warfarin. does the metroprolol suppress my heart rhythm - I cannot seem to exercise or even walk a short distance without getting short of breath and pressure in my chest. Never had heart attack - do not have angina - doe not have chest pain, only pressure. both my brothers have atrial fib and only take 25 mg of metroprolol. Never had high blood pressure in the past. I think I take too much medicine.
Hello, We need to individualize the dose of Metoprolol in all patients. Some may need higher dose to control the Heart rate. If it's resting heart rate is too low say less than 60 then you can reduce the dose to 75 mg. Excessive low heart rate can cause shortness of breath, however underlying heart disease if any may contribute to shortness of breath. Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.
