Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been experiencing shortness of breath for about 1 week. No matter how deep I try to breathe I do not feel like I am getting enough air. I am a 31 year old female, recently traveled, have been relatively sedentary because I am studying for the Bar exam. I was on birth control until recently. I talked to a family member who is a nurse practitioner. She recommended I go to the ER to rule out worst case scenario- blood clot
Noted your history of shortness of breath for 1 weeks, was sedentary and busy with exam preparation, was on OC pills, the Nurse thought about a blood clot. The blood clot or embolism may not be the reason as this causes severe symptoms, admission and intensive care. Other possible reason is asthma or allergic bronchitis. Severe weakness due to any reason can also cause similar problems. I would advise you the following in such a case: Consult your Doctor for clinical examination, auscultation of the chest to find the cause, X-ray of the chest, relevant tests of blood. All these will help to get a probable diagnosis which helps in an appropriate management.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
