What Causes Shoulder And Arm Pain After Undergoing Carpel Tunnel Surgery?

I had ulnar and carpal tunnel surgery three weeks ago. I have been doing fine however my entire arm from my hand to my shoulder all of a sudden (last 24 hours)hurts. Should I be concerned? I started doing more around the house the last few days and avoiding lifting. My surgeon who is a top specialist said I really could not do damage. hmmmm

Hi,

We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, it seems to be due to nerve compression due to post surgery inflammation or any trauma related to surgery, and may need to be evaluated, as in carpal tunnel only median nerve is involved but your issue seems to be involving radial and ulnar nerves as well.

Nerve conduction studies and detailed sensory examination of upper limbs is recommended preferably by a neurosurgeon. Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be helpful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin
